This video is a masterpiece. A set made completely from cardboard. The song is called "You Don't Want Yr Nails Done," and the guy behind it is Charlie Salas-Humara aka Panther - also known for his role in the classic Portland-based band The Planet The. My sister is tight with the band and sent me this video over three years ago, and I watched it repeatedly, mesmerized, noticing new things every time. In addition to the artistic integrity of this video, can I also mention that it makes me giggle uncontrollably like a five year old? The video came up randomly in conversation today and it reminded me how truly fantastic and noteworthy it really is. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUu5gO4RUxo&w=425&h=344]
The video, which I remember being up for Video of the Year on MTV2 at some point, was directed by Rob "Whitey" McConnaughy who also directed another of my favorite videos - "Keep Your Eyes Ahead" by (also Portland-based band) The Helio Sequence.
These are the music videos that almost make me miss music tv. But then I remember that they're now overrun with an unsettling combo of bad rap, Paramore, and ridic reality shows...and then I thank my lucky stars for YouTube.
