Sine Qua Non

The art of Manfred Krankl brings a new meaning to "under the radar" - it is almost exclusively found adorning the bottles of his highly sought after wine. Each year, a mere 3,500 cases of Sine Qua Non wine are handcrafted and produced within the warehouse district of Ventura, CA's Westside. The cult following of Manfred and his wife Elaine's enterprise is a sight to behold - with a rumored six-year waiting list to get on the actual list to obtain the wine, they have their work cut out for them. thehussyfront

Manfred's label art ranges from mixed media to paintings and photography. The labels vary in size, shape, and complexity. I am partial to those pieces with original script, and sassy catch-phrases, explanations and titles.

My personal favorite (front and back below) tells you exactly who Manfred and Elaine Krankl are; not just as creators, artists, and business/life partners, but also as the fantastic people they so obviously are.

Although the winery does not have a website and there is little to no information or archived home base for Manfred's work, you can learn more about Sine Qua Non here, here and here.
