My husband knows me well. Case in point: he gifted me a weekend getaway to Big Sur last Christmas. We finally got around to going in February, and here it is nearly June and I've just made time to edit my photos and am now ready to share! We stayed in a teeny tiny (and absolutely perfect) cabin at Deetjen's Big Sur Inn, where we enjoyed hikes through the Redwood forest, mouth-watering cuisine at their on-site restaurant, and wandered the grounds with resident cat Fabio. Deetjen's was a joy to experience — it's almost as if time stands still in this unfamiliar land of zero cell signal or internet connection and unlocked cabin doors (really, there were no locks anywhere and I still felt safe). Also notable was the coffee, pastries (homemade doughnuts, seriously?!), and delicious lunch options at nearby Big Sur Bakery, where we grabbed cappuccinos and checked into the digital world once a day.
Rain or shine, Big Sur was one of the most breathtaking and peaceful places I've ever had the pleasure of visiting. The thing that resonated with me the most was the smell. Every time I stepped outside, the air lingered of eucalyptus and ocean brine, and I'm pretty sure I've never breathed deeper in my life! Here's a photo journey of our travels.
Thanks for blowing my mind, Big Sur. Until next time, I'll be dreaming of that sweet smell.
