If She Were a Turkey

At school, my [soon-to-be official] niece, Gracie, wrote about how she would celebrate Thanksgiving if she were a turkey. What she wrote made my LIFE!

That's my girl.

Don't Buy This Jacket

I adore Patagonia. This company not only knows its brand and stands by its ethics, they scream it out loud for the world to hear. They make an impact and don't care about the cost - literally. Here's an excerpt from the below full-page ad which appeared in the Black Friday installment of The New York Times:

[This jacket] required 135 liters of water, enough to meet the daily needs (three glasses a day) of 45 people. Its journey from its origin as 60% recycled polyester to our Reno warehouse generated nearly 20 pounds of carbon dioxide, 24 times the weight of the finished product. This jacket left behind, on its way to Reno, two-thirds its weight in waste. And this is a 60% recycled polyester jacket, knit and sewn to a high standard; it is exceptionally durable, so you won’t have to replace it as often. And when it comes to the end of its useful life we’ll take it back to recycle into a product of equal value. But, as is true of all the things we can make and you can buy, this jacket comes with an environmental cost higher than its price.

Bitter Pills, Prescribed by Betsy Dye

My good friend Betsy is a self-proclaimed (and okay with it) single gal for life. She doesn't want to be in a serious relationship and the idea of marriage makes her skin crawl (unless it's a faux marriage to her best friend Eliz orchestrated in hopes of scoring $10K from her parents). She's awfully cute, has a fantastic sense of humor and is painfully talented, so obviously some doucherods occasionally flock to her. And being human, she gets hurt from time to time. Her spirited response to these situations get posted to her Tumbler in the form of some very clever insult hearts.

Turning heartache into art = the way to go. Hellcats "side-five" to you, little lady! [Since the large majority of you probably don't watch terrible CW television like Betsy and I do, watch the very end of the below video to see what I'm talking about].

Conversation Hearts

I got a bag of Valentine's Day candy from my coworker that I am still rifling through. There was a box of conversation hearts (which I hadn't seen in years) within this bag. Let me just say...I am appalled. I laughed out loud for a minute straight, but regardless I am still appalled.

Did I get the gag-gift for adults box? Is "Reach 4 It" a conversation that a fourth grader is having with his playground crush these days? Crikey.

Back to Work!

Call me crazy, but after a restful and amazing holiday break, I'm excited to be back at work today! Though I am plowing through piles of projects and catching up on two weeks worth of emails, I can't stop smiling. It's a truly awesome feeling to love what you do, the organizations you help to support, and the people you work with. Working in the nonprofit art world isn't always easy, but it sure is rewarding to wake up every morning and know that you're making a difference. I just got goosebumps - I'm so lame! Also, this clip from Easy A makes me go into hysterics, so you should probably watch it. Emma Stone is a powerhouse.
